Allison Burris

Merry Men

Of course you could see why Robin (wearer of Lincoln green, laugher in the face of sheriffs, bow-stringer, bullseye notcher and lovable lord sans his ancestral land) might be hard-pressed to take his lady love, Marian, on a date (she of the sharp eye, hawk nurse, she of the well-turned wimple), and this assumes he’d ever have the courage to risk such a dauntless neck (rejected or discovered at her chamber window, either way strung up, just another braveish, brash, knavish brigand), so instead he might be found laughing in the forest (retelling tales to the men, men inflating tales into tells, men out for the little guy, men distracting themselves from cold water with robbery for the greater good and no need to bother with details like vulnerability and one-true-loves).

Allison Burris grew up in the misty Pacific Northwest and writes whimsical and subversive poems from Oakland, CA. She holds a Masters in Library science, and you can often find her at the library, drawing, or baking. Recent publications include The Orange & Bee, New World Writing, and RockPaperPoem.
